MIKE LEAVITT

Based in the US | born 1977

Mike Leavitt lives two dreams making both art and toys. He marries low brow and fine art with painting, sculpture, design and satire. He is a latchkey kid of divorced baby boomers and Saturday morning cartoons, coming to age in decades of Iraq Wars. He grew up with toys made by anonymous sculptors so he pulls the curtain on the puppeteers behind the scenes. He sculpts until his thumbs bleed, showing worldwide and creating hundreds of figurines. Mike is a nerd making dolls in his basement, articulating the voice of a generation in need of real action heroes.

“He [Kubrick] had a way of finding hope in the midst of sometimes purely sickening events. These are the types of feelings that I intended to capture with this sculpture.”
